This tape consists of an interview taken at KTVU during
the preparation of their 30th birthday celebration
in 1988. The rest are 16mm films I had saved and never
looked at since showing them on the TV show. Forrest
Patten, an old Sir Sedley fan who now has a recording
studio in San Francisco compiled them together and
put the music in the background. A real labor of love,
and I am so pleased to have the tape made. The sections
with the Three Stooges were filmed by Columbia Pictures
when Midge and I went down to LA to take the little
part in the film The Outlaws Is Coming which was the
last film the Stooges made. The first shot at LAX
was my arrival in LA being met by the Stooges, then
to Moe Howards house in Bel Air for a barbecue of
Buffalo steaks, (the picture was set around a buffalo
stampede.) Each of us who were hosts of Stooges programs
on TV around the country took little scenes. I was
Cole Younger, in mustache and dirty coat. We were
the Gunslingers. Also in the movie was Adam West who
later became Batman on TV, and Nancy Kovacks who went
on to better things. These films were trailers that
were sent from LA to each of us to show on our TV
programs...a great promotion.
The next section is Children's Fairyland and various
special days that I promoted on TV and the KTVU
cameraman filmed. First was King Fuddles 600th birthday
(see the cake with all the candles). Good shots
of the crowd, my show etc. Then another day was
Alice in Wonderland Day where we selected Alice
for the year. In the scene where the Mad Hatter
is carrying the sleeping doormouse...that is Lindy.
Then as I worked for the ad agency I got the clients
into the act and invented the Happy Hearts Club
for Morrell Meats (They put a Heart on every package).
They hired a giant, 7'2' Richard Kiel from Hayward
and we called him Big Frank. He came on the TV show
and then to the publicity parties. He later became
"Jaws" in the James Bond films. One party
was at Playland at the Beach in San Francisco where
we were on the balcony over the audience. Then there
is one at Frontier Village in San Jose and if you
look closely you will see Bing and Cathy Crosby
with their little kids who came to see me. Midge
is giving out the tickets at the start and Lindy
is in it also. Last is at Knowland Park Zoo in Oakland
where we picked the winner of the contest to name
a baby elephant. I had forgotten these films and
it is so great to have them all on one reel...with
music background.
